Bridges Early Learning
A brand-grade marketing site for a licensed Oakland home-based childcare business — built around a real backend that turns visitor interest into qualified, organized leads.
The Problem
Sarah Murray brings 25+ years of experience to her home-based daycare — culinary school, LVN credential, postpartum doula training, and decades of hands-on childcare. But generic daycare templates flatten that story into the same stock-photo grid every other site uses.
Worse, most templates push prospective parents toward third-party form services that lose data, add friction, and don't produce the polished application packet a serious enrollment process needs.
The Approach
A hand-built 11-page site with a custom sage / sandy / sunshine design system that matches the warmth of the business — paired with a real Firebase backend that handles three distinct lead-capture flows.
Enrollment submissions run through a Cloud Function that generates a multi-page styled PDF on the server and emails it directly to Sarah, turning a form on the web into a ready-to-file application packet in her inbox.

Key Features
Three-Stage Lead Capture
Tour requests, contact messages, and a 40-field enrollment application — all routed through one secure Cloud Function endpoint with AJAX submission and inline success states.
Server-Side PDF Packets
Enrollment applications auto-generate a styled, multi-page PDF (sage header, page numbers, text wrapping) via pdf-lib and email it to the owner as an attachment — no third-party form services involved.
Custom Brand Design System
Hand-built sage / sandy / sunshine palette and Playfair Display × Poppins type pairing. No template, no framework — every component crafted to match the warmth of the business.
Honeypot Anti-Spam
Hidden form field silently catches bots. Legitimate visitors see a clean form; spam submissions return 200 OK without ever reaching the inbox.
Accessible Interactions
Gallery lightbox with keyboard navigation, mobile drawer nav with Escape-to-close, ARIA labels throughout, and full prefers-reduced-motion support.
Local-Business SEO
Schema.org ChildCare markup, OpenGraph and Twitter Cards on every page, canonical URLs, sitemap, and aggressive image caching for fast repeat visits.
From Form Submit to Inbox
1. Client-Side Validation & AJAX Submission
Forms validate required fields in the browser and submit asynchronously, replacing themselves in-place with a green-checkmark success state — no page reload, no abandoned tabs. Errors surface inline with a fallback mailto link so a visitor can always reach Sarah even if something goes wrong.
2. Hosting Rewrite to Cloud Function
Firebase Hosting rewrites /api/submit to a Functions v2 endpoint running Node 22 in us-central1. SMTP credentials and notification address are stored in Secret Manager — never in source — and injected at runtime.
3. PDF Generation & Email Dispatch
For enrollment applications, the function builds a multi-page PDF on the server with pdf-lib — sage-green header, footer with page numbers, intelligent text wrapping — then sends it via Nodemailer / Gmail SMTP from sarah@bridgesearlylearning.org with Reply-To set to the parent. Tour and contact submissions skip the PDF step and email plain content.
Custom Brand Design System
No template. No theme purchase. Every color, type pairing, and motion curve chosen to match the warmth of a 25-year career in childcare.
Palette
Sage green primary (#4A7C59), sandy brown accents (#F4A460), sunshine yellow highlights (#F6E05E) — warm, grounded, child-friendly without being saccharine.
Typography
Playfair Display for elegant, traditional headings paired with Poppins for modern, friendly body copy. Preconnected Google Fonts for fast first paint.
Motion
Intersection-Observer scroll fades, lightbox transitions, mobile-drawer slide-in — all gated by prefers-reduced-motion for users who opt out.
Working with Stephen was fantastic. From start to finish, the process was excellent. Stephen was incredibly kind, patient, professional, and knowledgeable. He really took the time to understand my vision and bring it to life in a way that exceeded my expectations.
His design suggestions were thoughtful and creative, and he developed a clear, well-structured plan that made everything feel seamless and stress-free. Stephen's communication was outstanding — always responsive and got back to me right away, even on weekends, which I genuinely appreciated.
Most importantly, the final website turned out beautiful. He continues to support me through any questions or additions, even though he has completed the project. His continued support means the world to me. I cannot thank him enough for his dedication and hard work. I would highly recommend Stephen to anyone looking for a talented, reliable, and committed web designer.
